- The market of pick-up trucks in India is not very large as compared to other segments
Toyota is all set to enter lifestyle pick-up truck segment with the Hilux. According to reports, this pick-up truck can make its way to India on 23 January, 2022. The unofficial bookings of the Hilux has commenced. Few days back, Toyota dispatched the initial models to the dealerships. The launch of the Hilux in India is imminent as it got spied during TVC shoot as well.
Toyota Hilux Engine
The Toyota Hilux shares its platform with the Fortuner and Innova. It could get 2.8-Litre diesel engine that powers the Toyota Fortuner. This engine has massive 500 Nm of torque and 201 BHP power. As it is a pick-up truck it will get an all-wheel drive system. The gearbox details about the Hilux are not known yet. Toyota could also offer 2.4-Litre diesel engine on the Hilux.
The Hilux measures 5,285mm in length. It is longer from the Fortuner whose length stood at 4,795mm.
Toyota Hilux Exterior
This is not surprising that the Hilux reminds of the Fortuner. The truck face has the Fortuner inspired looks but it looks notably different. Toyota has given the Hilux a much larger hexagonal grille with unique LED headlights. The rugged bumper shows the tough nature of the pick-up truck. In India, the Hilux will get double-cab body style. Just one look at the rear end and one can instantly get to know that it is a pick-up truck.
Toyota Hilux Interior
The interior of the Hilux will share lot of equipments from the Fortuner SUV. We expect that the Hilux will get similar dashboard design as of the Fortuner. Seats and steering wheel could also be similar. Features like 8.0-inch touchscreen is also expected on the Hilux pick-up truck. Even though the Hilux is a pick-up truck, the second row will be as spacious as the Fortuner. Other details about the interior will be revealed as we get closer to the launch on 23 January.

The price of the Toyota Hilux in India will be more than the Fortuner SUV. The Hilux could get a starting price of Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom) while the top model could cost Rs 35 lakh (ex-showroom). The ISUZU D-Max is the only rival of the Toyota Hilux in India. To give you a reference, it starts at Rs 18.05 lakh and goes upto 25.60 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
