This futuristic EV promises a mind-blowing 1,000km range on a single charge

That’s quite impressive.

With its massive 837km range, the 2021 Lucid Air shook up the EV industry, but now there’s a new player in town with an even higher number: Fresco Motors of Norway.

Let’s start with the most astounding feature: the Fresco XL will have a 1,000-kilometer range on a single charge.

This was made feasible, according to the business, by the vehicle’s aerodynamic trimmings and extra-large battery pack. We guess that’s how the car got its name.

You might be wondering what an extra-large battery pack entails. We contacted Fresco to find out more and will update the article if we hear back.

The business did explain, however, that the battery will be double stacked atop the car’s two electric motors (one on each axle), allowing for a 1,000-kilometer range.

Don’t be deceived by the car’s understated appearance. It’s an eight-seater car that can also be used as an all-weather off-road vehicle.

The dual motors provide traction and grip on icy roads, and it has all-wheel drive (AWD). It can also be converted into a camper by lowering the passenger seats.

Plus, you can connect it to your home and utilise it as a backup energy storage unit in the event of a power outage.

Interestingly, the company itself describes the Fresco XL not as a car, but as a pod. In a more practical sense, though, the Fresco XL is still a car.

In our opinion, it is more akin to the design of futuristic spaceship-looking cars like the Teorema and the Cadillac InnerSpace, rather than attempting to be pod-like.

Whatever your opinion of the aesthetics, Fresco appears to have a capable vehicle here — at least on paper. We’re still waiting to see if the production-ready version delivers on its promises. There’s sometimes a considerable difference between what EV manufacturers feel they can do and what they can actually do.

It’s now available for pre-order on the company’s website, and yes, it comes with a hefty price tag of $114,330.
