Nio, a Chinese electric automaker is all set to rival Tesla with their new ET5 sedan. ET5 is a compact electric sedan aimed primarily at Tesla Model 3. Deliveries are set to commence from September 2022. Model 3 is the entry-level product from Tesla. It is one of the highest selling electric cars in China. Nio sees itself as a Tesla rival in Chinese as well as European markets.
ET5 Electric Sedan
Nio ET5 offers a maximum range of 620 miles that translates to almost 1,000km. Company is offering three battery sizes with different range. ET5 gets a 75 Kwh, 100 Kwh & 150 Kwh battery. These batteries offer a range of 342 miles, 435 miles and 620 miles respectively. This could make Nio ET5 one of the longest range electric sedan on sale globally.
When it comes to motor ET5 gets 201bhp asynchronous motor on the front axel and 282bhp motor on rear one. Combine output of Nio ET5 sedan is 483bhp and 516lb ft. This help the car to go from 0 to 62 mph in just 4.3 seconds. These power and torque figures are based on Chinese CLTC test cycle and not the WLTP one.
The interior of ET5 gets a minimal design language. Featureless dashboard, big vertical touchscreen, panoramic roof, Dolby Atmos sound system, 256 colour ambient lightning etc are on offer. The ET5 will get autonomous driving feature right from the launch.
Nio will retail ET5 at a base price of 328,000 yuan ($51,450) before government subsidies. Rival Tesla Model 3 price in China starts at 255,652 yuan ($40,095) post-subsidy.
