Tata Altroz is one of the most popular premium hatchbacks in the market. In 2020, Tata Motors launched the Altroz which took the premium hatchback segment by storm. In the same year Hyundai updated the i20 with a new model that is currently on sale. The Altroz dethroned the i20 to become second best selling car in its segment. Both cars get a turbo variant. The turbo variant of the Altroz goes with the name of Altroz iTurbo that starts at Rs 8.71 lakh. Hyundai also offers the turbo variant on the i20 that starts at Rs 8.89 lakh. Here we have a video where Altroz iTurbo and i20 turbo competing against each other in a darg race.
Altroz vs i20 – Drag Race
In the first round of a drag race the i20 won by a small margin. It reached the finish point in 18.50 seconds while 0-100 kmph acceleration took 11.88 seconds. On the other hand, the Altroz reached the finish line in 18.98 seconds and took 12.01 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph. So that goes for the first round.
Then riders swap the car and then the Altroz showed up what’s like to drive turbo with a manual transmission. In the second round the Altroz took 18.10 seconds to reach the finish line. 0-100 kmph acceleration this time stood at 11.80 seconds. The Hyundai i20 this time took 19.23 seconds to finish the race. 0-100 kmph acceleration took good 12.68 seconds for the i20 in the second round.
So the Tata Altroz here is a clear winner. The best advantage advantage that Tata Altroz had in the drag race is it’s manual transmission. The advantage of manual transmission is that knowing where you exactly want to shift. But the iMT takes its own time to deliver the power.
i20 Turbo vs Altroz Turbo
The i20 turbo gets a 998cc engine that puts out 118 BHP and 171 Nm. The 1199cc turbo engine on the Altroz packs 108 BHP and 140 Nm. Despite having less power and torque the Altroz won the race. This shows that how the power delivery on the manual transmission works on a turbocharged engine.
