FAME-2 Led To 5,000+ Electric Two-wheeler Sales In India Every Week

Over 1.85 lakh electric vehicles have benefitted under FAME-2 scheme in which 1.19 lakh were two-wheelers

Electric two-wheeler sales in India got huge boost due to FAME-2 scheme. The remodelling of the FAME-2 scheme happened in June 2021. According to heavy industries ministry, over 5,000 electric two-wheelers sells in India every week. This used to be at just 700 models before FAME-2 scheme came out.

Under the FAME-2 scheme, total 1.85 lakh electric vehicles have benefitted. Alone in 2021 over 1.4 lakh electric two-wheelers got the benefit of the FAME-2 scheme. The central government has planned an outlay of Rs 10,000 Crore for Faster Adoption and Manufacturing Of Electric Vehicles (FAME).

The government provides subsidies for those customers who choose electric vehicles. Under this scheme government also creates charging infrastructure for electric vehicles. Till now a benefit of Rs 500 crore has been passed to the customers. This includes 1.19 lakh electric two-wheelers, 20.42k electric three-wheelers and 580 four-wheelers as well.

The demand of electric vehicles is rising since last year. Electric scooters like Ola S1 and Ather 450 are in huge demand. While Ather 450 is one of the best selling electric scooters, Ola S1 has also garnered 1 lakh bookings in first 24 hours. Tata Nexon EV continues to rule the passenger electric vehicle segment with good sales volume. Apart from the FAME-2 scheme, some states also offers double subsidy on electric vehicles.
