  • From Feb 1, the Daimler AG will carry the name of Mercedes-Benz Group AG as a part of company’s focus on the future

Daimler has announced to rename itself to Mercedes-Benz. From Feb 1, the Daimler AG will carry the name of the Mercedes-Benz Group AG. This is a part of the company’s focus on the future and zero-emission. The rebranding comes when auto industry is changing continuously. After spin-off of its truck & bus division, Mercedes will now have seperate governance for commercial and passenger vehicles. The company is looking to raise its valuations by doing so.

Mercedes-Benz Group AG

The Daimler valuation currently stands at 77 billion euros or $85.70 billion, a 40 percent increase in last 12 months. Undoubtedly, the automaker wants a valuation like what we see on the Tesla. With a new Mercedes-Benz Group AG, the company looks to unlock value for its shareholders. Automakers like Tesla and Lucid started with 100 percent EVs. But this is not the case with Mercedes-Benz. First the company will convert its ICE vehicles to EVs. This may limit the valuation of the company. Daimler CEO sees a lot of potential in the Mercedes-Benz stock. Daimler Truck AG spun-off in December, 2021.

The Daimler-Benz AG began its journey in 1926. In 1902, the Daimler AG adopted the ‘Mercedes’ brand name. The Mercedes brand got its name after the daughter of an automobile entrepreneur. After more than nine decades, the company is changing its operational structure.

Under the new Mercedes-Benz Group AG name, the company is looking to launch multiple EVs. Mercedes-Benz launched the EQS last year and it is the flagship EV from the brand. The EQS sets a high standard of luxury electric vehicles and this is what Mercedes-Benz is known for. With the EQS, Mercedes-Benz aimed at Tesla, Lucid as well as other electric vehicles available in the market.
